Moving Tips

Practical Tips for a Smoother Move

A little preparation goes a long way. These straightforward tips help you get organized, protect your belongings, and keep moving day on track.

1

Choose an appropriately sized rental truck

Too small and you'll make extra trips; too large and you pay for space you don't need. Estimate your load by room count and large furniture, then pick the truck that matches. If you're unsure, ask us — we load trucks every week.

2

Gather boxes and moving supplies early

Boxes, packing tape, labels, bubble wrap, and stretch wrap are easier to find before the busy week arrives. Stock up a couple of weeks ahead so you're not scrambling the night before.

3

Label and completely seal boxes before moving day

Write the destination room on at least two sides of every box, and seal each one fully with tape. Sealed, labeled boxes load faster, stack safely, and end up in the right room.

4

Protect furniture before it leaves the room

Wrap corners and surfaces with moving blankets or stretch wrap before carrying furniture out. Disassemble what you can — bed frames and tables travel safer in pieces.

5

Pack heavy items in small boxes

Books, tools, and dishes get heavy fast. Use small boxes for dense items so they stay liftable and don't break through the bottom. Reserve large boxes for light, bulky things like bedding.

6

Keep hardware and cords together

Bag the screws, bolts, and brackets from any furniture you disassemble and tape them to the piece they belong to. Take a photo of cord setups before unplugging so reassembly is easy.

7

Map out both addresses

Confirm parking and building access at both your starting point and destination. Reserve an elevator or loading zone if you need one — a clear path saves real time on moving day.

8

Start early and pace the day

An early start gives you daylight and a buffer for the unexpected. Work in focused blocks, take short breaks, and let the crew handle the heaviest lifting so you don't burn out by noon.
